POWER SUPPLIES - UPS

By incorporating a suitably sized and configured UPS within an installation, not only can the system continue operating during a complete mains power failure, but by specifying superior ”On-Line“ or ”Double Conversion“ UPS technology, your expensive investment in DVR, Camera and Access Control equipment can be totally isolated from poor quality mains supply - thereby increasing system life and reliability.
The most basic and cost effective UPS is the offline or Stand-By UPS. In normal mode the load, (DVR, camera supply, access control equipment etc) is connected directly to the 240v mains without any power conversions. In the event of a power problem (outage, voltage sags or spikes) the UPS transfers the load to the batteries to supply stabilised power. Depending upon the UPS model / type, this stabalised power may be artificially generated sine wave (rare) or more commonly, modified sine wave.
"On-Line" or "Double Conversion" UPS's on the other hand, provide a greatly enhanced level of protection and performance. Power is completely regenerated by its transformation from 240V AC to DC and then back to 240V AC, thus guaranteeing a constant level of quality, regardless of disturbance on the mains power source. On-Line / Double Conversion technology is provides a premium solution for security industry applications - no other technology will provide superior perfomance & reliability.
"Line-Interactive" UPS technology provides a a compromise between the performance & expense of On-Line technology and the cost effective / basic protection of an Off-Line UPS - Line Interactive UPS's are in common use within the security industry. In the event of a power problem, the UPS transfers the load to the batteries to supply stabilised power. Most Line Interactive types incorporate a voltage compensation circuit, which can "boost" the voltage in the event of prolonged voltage drop or "buck" (fade) excessive voltages - all without resorting to battery power.
